{"id":18270,"date":"2026-08-19T21:10:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T20:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sittingbournefc.org\/?p=18270"},"modified":"2026-08-20T19:11:57","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:11:57","slug":"match-report-whitstable-t-1-sittingbourne-2-18-08-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sittingbournefc.org\/?p=18270","title":{"rendered":"Match report: Whitstable T 1 Sittingbourne 2, 18\/08\/2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Whitstable Town 1 (Wall) Sittingbourne 2 ( Smith-2)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Isthmian League Division One South<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>18th August 2026<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong>Report by: Mike Green<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For the third League game running, Sittingbourne left it so late to seal a result as a Harvey Smith header ensured a really hard fought 2-1 for the Brickies over newly promoted Whitstable Town at the Belmont.<span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Last season&#8217;s SCEFL Champions, playing their first home League game back at this level,\u00a0were behind early on when Smith arrowed a drive into the bottom\u00a0corner after great hold up play from Jordan Greenidge.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But the Oystermen who lost an entire team and manager over the summer, came roaring back with some direct play that the Brickies found tough to deal with and soon Alex Wall had got on the end of one huge clearance to head the home side level.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The home side continued getting some good advantages from playing so directly that the visitors were at times stretched\u00a0almost to\u00a0breaking point. But as the second period wore on, this local derby became more of an\u00a0end-to-end\u00a0contest which both\u00a0sides\u00a0could have won. The fact that the Brickies did was down to a pinpoint corner from Jean-Baptiste Fischer and a\u00a0thumping header from Smith for his\u00a0third\u00a0goal of the season to break Whitstable hearts \u2013 and\u00a0it was a\u00a0double-edged\u00a0sword for the young striker as Smith played\u00a0such a massive part in bringing the FA Vase to the Belmont sixteen months ago!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Indeed,\u00a0it was Smith who had\u00a0rifled\u00a0the Brickies in front after only eight minutes. The Sittingbourne faithful travelled in their numbers yet again and were well into their hundreds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Harvey Smith is on fire.<\/p>\n<p>Harvey Smith popped up in injury time for the second consecutive away game to bag himself the match winning goal to ensure the Brickies went home with all three points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Whitstable Town\u2019s ground improvements.<\/p>\n<p>At this level of the game, it is always nice to see clubs improve their grounds, it shows the hard work that everyone on and off the pitch put into the club, and highlights the growing professionalism at this level of the game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Three unbeaten going into the FA Cup game on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>That is three games unbeaten in the Isthmian League going into our FA Cup Preliminary Round tie against Erith and Belvedere (at Welling United) this Saturday.
