Sittingbourne 2 (Boachie-2) Hastings Utd 3 (Walsh-2, Clarke)<\/strong>

Sittingbourne entertained Hastings Utd for this important League fixture that would decide who was top of the league after the 90 mins.<\/p>\n

From a historic point of view, it was also important as it marked the first-time the brand-new LED floodlights were switched on. The replacement of the lights was much needed. Over the past few years numerous components have had to be changed. The lux level was getting worse because all the reflectors were tarnished. A grant from the Premier League fund and assistance from The Woodstock made this possible.<\/p>\n

For Sittingbourne, Joe Boachie returned to the starting line up and was my man of the match. Gavin Hoyte was named as a substitute after sustaining an injury in the last league match. It was an attacking line up then with Boachie, Jordon Greenidge and Harvey Smith all starting.<\/p>\n

First chance of any note fell to Sittingbourne\u2019s Theobald, who, found himself unchallenged twenty yards out. His first time shot sailed over the bar.<\/p>\n

Hasting\u2019s first goal after 12 minutes was their first determined attack. It came after a harsh free kick was awarded. The kick found Callum Erskine, who was a danger on the left all evening. He raced down the wing, then his low cross was glanced into the goal by Max Walsh.<\/p>\n

A feature of Hastings Utd play was long throws. One such throw found a player after 18 minutes whose shot went just wide of the post. In the same play, Jaiden Chang-Brown was left sprawling on the pitch after an innocuous challenge and had to be substituted. It was later confirmed that he had dislocated his collar bone<\/p>\n

After 29 minutes the Brickies got back into the game. The move that created the goal started in the Brickies own half. The goal itself came from a great pass from Harvey Smith. He found Joe Boachie who raced down the wing and sent a superb shot into the corner of the Hastings net.<\/p>\n

A few minutes later a bizarre incident occurred when it looked like a foul was committed on a Brickies player, however the referee allowed play to go on. The ball fell to Skye Salmon, who had no one ahead of him. The referee then pulled the play back and rolled it to a Hastings player! A strange incident indeed.<\/p>\n

A half chance then fell to Sittingbourne when a cross found Jordan Geenidge who headed the back from around a yard from the hastings goal when it looked easier to head it towards the goal.<\/p>\n

Sittingbourne suffered another blow just before extra time. Dexter Peter stayed down just outside of the Hastings penalty area after another innocuous challenge. He came back on but only lasted another few minutes before, like Chang-Brown earlier, having to be substituted.<\/p>\n

A couple of long Hastings Utd throws caused problems in the Brickies penalty area, but the half time whistle came with the honours even.<\/p>\n

So, an entertaining half came to an end with 1-1 probably being a fair scoreline. For Sittingbourne though, the loss of two influential players, Chang-Brown and Peter was a concern.<\/p>\n

The second half started with yet another injury to a Sittingbourne player that required a substitution. This time it was D\u2019sean Theobalds.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t long after that Hastings got their second goal. The Hastings goalkeeper took a free kick from just outside the penalty area. It found a player on the right wing who ran unchallenged towards the Brickies goal line. He passed it inside to Clarke who, was also unchallenged and he had a simple task of passing the ball into the Sittingbourne net.<\/p>\n

Sittingbourne had a couple of great chances to equalise. Firstly Jody Mongoy\u2019s shot went just passed the post and secondly, Joe Boachie just missed connecting to the ball when one yard from the goal.<\/p>\n

There was a Brickies shout for a penalty when Kharvan Williams went on a mazy run and entered the Hastings penalty area. He looked to have been scythed down but the referee waved play on.<\/p>\n

The Brickies were in the ascendancy at this stage with Mongoy and Smith making chances.<\/p>\n

An equaliser did come though, and the goal scorer was again Joe Boachie. It came from a great header passed the despairing hands of Haines after a good cross from Harvey Smith.<\/p>\n

As this goal was three minutes into injury time it looked assured that The Brickies would at least get a point. However, Hastings had other ideas. Only one minute later Hastings scored a similar goal their second one. Again it was a run down the right that saw few challenges. A cross came in and Walsh was on hand to net his second and win the game for Hastings. Understandably the Hastings Players, Management and supporters went wild as would have Sittingbourne if it had been them who had scored.<\/p>\n

Sittingbourne deserved something out of the game. This was the best performance by a Sittingbourne side I have seen this season but Hastings never gave up and poor defending from the Brickies did not help their cause.<\/p>\n
