Prestedge’s Sittingbourne side return to Isthmian League action this Saturday when they travel to Gravesend to face 21st placed Punjab United.
Punjab United, were founded in 2003. The club joined the Kent County League Premier Division in 2016, and in their inaugural season won the Kent Intermediate Challenge Cup, were finalists in the Kent County League Cup, and were crowned the 2016–17 League champions. The club were the first Asian team to win the league and did so with the highest league points total in the history of the league.
They were promoted last season from the SCEFL Premier Division after winning a play off Final by beating Rusthall on penalties. They finished 5th in the table that season with a record of, played 36, won 18, Drawn 9 and losing 9.
Reece Prestedge’s Brickies return to Isthmian League action after back-to-back Cup games – a 4-3 loss at home to AFC Greenwich Borough in the FA Cup and a 2-1 loss in the Kent Senior Cup at Swale rivals Sheppey United.
Punjab United themselves were due to compete in Kent Senior Cup action on Tuesday too, that game was postponed to make way for their scheduled opponents, Cray Wanderer’s FA Cup Replay.
Punjab, like Sittingbourne, also find themselves out of both FA Cup and FA Trophy competitions, and they will be hoping the mid-week break will give them an edge.
With just three games in the South East Division going ahead due to many teams in the Division competing in the FA Trophy this weekend, Prestedge and his Brickies side know a win could see them move up into top spot.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides.
